The hotel the Riviera knows by name

Hotel Negresco opened in 1913, designed by Édouard-Jean Niermans for Henri Negresco, a Romanian who'd arrived in Nice at 24. The pink dome on the facade is the signature of the Promenade des Anglais.

The hotel was listed as a Historic Monument of France in 2003, past guests include Frank Sinatra, Salvador Dalí, Elizabeth Taylor, The Beatles.

The rooms we choose

Negresco has 124 rooms, each with original artwork, together a collection worth €100 million.

  • Classic Room (sea view) · €550–800/night, Promenade des Anglais view
  • Junior Suite · €1,100–1,500, with a sitting room
  • Negresco Suite · €2,800+, inside the pink dome

Wanvela tip: ask for the 4th floor or above, the Promenade des Anglais has traffic, lower-floor rooms hear it.

Le Chantecler - 2 Michelin stars

The restaurant sits in the hotel's historic ballroom, Chef Virginie Basselot (one of four female 2-Michelin chefs in France) cooks Niçoise cuisine with vegetables from the Vésubie valley.

Eight-course tasting €260, open Wednesday through Saturday.

Bar Le Relais

The lobby café has been open since 1913, marble tables, a genuine Steinway piano on which Frank Sinatra once played. Wanvela arranges breakfast here for clients every time.

"Negresco isn't contemporary luxury, it's Belle Époque still in motion, and you'll understand why the Riviera was once the destination of the world." - Wanvela trip note, June 2024

A better location than other boutiques

Negresco sits directly on the Promenade des Anglais, distances:

  • Vieux Nice (Old Town) · 12 minutes walking
  • Marché aux Fleurs Cours Saleya · 14 minutes
  • Marc Chagall Museum · 10 minutes by Uber
  • Monaco · 30 minutes by car, 25 by train
  • Èze hilltop village · 20 minutes by car

Compared with Cap d'Antibes

  • Negresco vs Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc · Eden-Roc is private and exclusive on a clifftop, but far, 30 minutes by car.
  • Negresco vs Hotel La Mamounia (Cannes) · Mamounia in Cannes, better for film-festival energy.
  • Negresco vs Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat · Cap-Ferrat is exclusive and peaceful, but Negresco has location energy.

Wanvela tips

  • Cocktails at Bar Le Relais before 7 pm, there's a live harpist.
  • Walk the Promenade des Anglais at 6:30 am, pink sunrise on the hotel's facade.
  • Our preferred day-trip order: Èze → Monaco → Menton in one day.

Negresco appears in Wanvela's France 10-night itinerary as the last three nights, before flying out of Nice for Bangkok.
