★★★★★
"Eliassen Rorbuer was the highlight, a red wooden cabin on the water, the Reine mountains framed in the window. We watched the Aurora from our own pier; didn't need to leave the cabin. The photographer captured the frame that's been my wallpaper all year."

"The E10 drive from Lofoten to Narvik was the unexpected highlight, every turn another postcard. Then Senja the next day, with the wooden walkway at Tungeneset stretching out over the Arctic Ocean. Unreal."

"The guided Aurora chase from Tromsø took us 80 km out into clear skies, we watched intense green ribbons for an hour. Combined with the nights from the Lofoten pier, we saw Aurora 3 of our 4 Arctic nights. Worth every minute."

FAQ, Norway

Common questions

Is the Aurora guaranteed?
No, and no honest operator should claim otherwise. Aurora depends on the KP index (solar activity), cloud cover, and luck. This itinerary places 4 nights inside the Arctic Circle (2 Lofoten + 2 Tromsø). The Tromsø night #2 is a dedicated guided chase using live KP forecasting + cloud-cover maps to drive to the clearest skies within 200 km. Clients average 2–3 sightings across the 4 nights in Nov–Mar. If anyone guarantees the lights, walk away.
Which months are best for the Aurora?
February to March is the sweet spot, clearer skies, more stable weather, snow cover, longer daylight for daytime activities. November to January Aurora is darker/longer but storms more frequent. Late September–October is also possible (sky is finally dark enough) and the fjords still reflect the lights beautifully.
What's special about Lofoten?
Four iconic fishing villages, Reine (the most photographed Lofoten image, with Reinebringen reflecting in the fjord), Hamnøy (red cabins by the bridge), Sakrisøy (yellow cabins), Nusfjord (UNESCO-listed). Two Arctic beaches, Uttakleiv (rounded stones) and Haukland (white sand, world-ranked). Easy coastal hikes possible, climb Mannen for the Haukland panorama.
What's on the E10 and at Senja?
The E10 ("King Olav V's Road") is northern Europe's most scenic highway, threading Lofoten to Tromsø across fjord-crossing bridges and dramatic peaks. Senja Island has two signature viewpoints: Tungeneset (a wooden walkway out onto the cliff over the Arctic Ocean, facing the Devil's Teeth peaks) and Bergsbotn (a steel platform extending out over a 1,500-foot-deep fjord).
What are the rorbu cabins (Eliassen Rorbuer) like?
Eliassen Rorbuer are traditional red fishermen's cabins at Hamnøy / Reine, restored as quality lodging, heated, private bathroom, small kitchen, living room with fjord-facing windows, shared sauna. Sleeps 4–6 per cabin. Wanvela has stayed in them personally and knows the owner; we can arrange the best view-facing units.
How cold is it, and how should we pack?
Lofoten and Tromsø run -5 to -15°C in winter (Lofoten is milder than expected thanks to the Gulf Stream). Clients bring base layers (Uniqlo Heattech equivalent), a down jacket, thick socks, beanie, gloves. Wanvela provides the full packing list 60 days before departure and can supply snow suit/boots/balaclava on request.
