Why travel insurance matters

Bangkok travelers often forget how expensive healthcare in Europe is, an ER visit in Switzerland starts at €800, in Italy €350, in Norway €700. A helicopter evacuation from a Swiss or Norwegian mountain trail can run €15,000–25,000.

This is why every Wanvela trip includes travel insurance with THB 3 million coverage, arranged for every guest.

COVID-19 coverage

Wanvela's insurance has covered COVID-19 since 2022, including:

• Medical expenses if infected during the trip
• Quarantine costs (extra hotel + meals) up to 14 days
• Trip extension fees if testing positive before the return flight
• Repatriation flight rescheduling fees

Activities covered

The adventure activities Wanvela offers are included:

• Helicopter glacier landing (NZ, Iceland)
• Glacier walking
• Snowshoeing, ski (recreational, not racing)
• Hiking to 4,500m altitude
• Scuba diving to 30m
• Hot air balloon
• Horseback riding

Activities not covered, paragliding (Switzerland), skydiving, mountain climbing over 4,500m, BASE jumping. If clients want these activities, Wanvela arranges a specific add-on.

Pre-existing conditions

Our policy covers pre-existing conditions when declared at application, Wanvela sends a health declaration form 30 days before the trip.

For cases where the insurer requests additional documentation (heart conditions, cancer in the past 5 years), Wanvela helps coordinate with the treating physician.

Claim process

In the event of an incident, the Wanvela tour leader contacts the insurer's 24/7 hotline immediately.

• Hotline number provided to every client before departure (printed in the trip dossier)
• Wanvela does the paperwork, clients only need to submit receipts and the doctor's report
• Reimbursement within 30 days of returning to Bangkok

Upgrades

For clients who want more:

• THB 5 million coverage · +THB 1,200 per guest
• THB 10 million coverage · +THB 2,800 per guest, recommended for travelers 65+
• Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) · +THB 4,500 per guest, 75% refund for any cancellation within 48 hours before the flight

We use AIG Travel Guard Asia for Schengen and Australia/NZ trips, and Allianz Global Assistance for non-Schengen trips. Both insurers offer 24/7 Thai-speaking hotlines.
